The girls hung their clothes in their new wardrobes and filled their dressers, then organized all their trinkets and school items on the extra shelves at the back of the room. When they were finished, they stowed their suitcases underneath their beds and looked at each other. Emma sat on the edge of her bed, kicking her legs and watching the pictures change on the wall. When the scene changed from the front of the mansion to an aerial shot of the forest nearby, it gave Emma an idea.

“I got it. I think it’s time we go find Dorvu. Don’t you think?”

Izzie clapped her hands and nodded. “Yes! He’s missed everyone so much this summer. I visited him as much as I could, but since I was the only student here, it raised suspicions when I disappeared.”

Alison walked forward. “Yeah, and when I came to visit he was nowhere to be found. I want to see how big he’s grown.”

Kathleen sighed and shrugged. “I suppose we should visit him. We are his family, after all. But I’m telling you right now, if a bug lands on me I’m sprinting back to the mansion so fast you won’t even see me leave.”

The girls laughed as they pulled on their shoes and headed out the room. Emma put her arm around Kathleen and they took up the rear, laughing about a plot to make sure none of the bugs touched her. They headed out to the courtyard, then nonchalantly made their way over to the field. They were curious as to how big the dragon had gotten.

As they crossed the fields that overlooked the busy barn and the back end of the garden area, they gazed at the shadowy part of the woods. Emma stopped in her tracks and pointed toward the top of the trees.

“Hey, there he is!”

The girls watched as Dorvu sailed from branch to branch. It was obvious he still couldn’t quite fly, at least not out in the open, but he was doing his best to use his wings and practice for when he was strong enough. Izzie glanced back at the courtyard and saw several of the parents look up, then shake their heads. Professor Hudson stopped briefly while showing several of the new students around the property and Izzie lifted an eyebrow, fearful at first that she was going to be angry. Apparently, she knew about Dorvu though, since the look on her face showed admiration as the silver dragon’s wings caught the sunlight and reflected it over the trees.

“Well, at least we don’t have to worry about Dorvu with Professor Hudson.”

Emma got closer to Izzie. “Maybe not, but at the same time, I wouldn’t flaunt that we’re visiting him. I’m not exactly sure if they know we’re the people who brought him here in the first place. She might very well think it’s something that the headmistress did, maybe as something for the new year. I don’t want to be around when she figures out the truth.
