It pained me so that you weren’t in the audience when we closed the show last night. I received the flowers and sweeties you sent, but you must know I’d rather have you. Why, half the lines in the show fell flat without your cannonade of laughter to start them off.

Although it could be as dear Mr. Hicks said. “Burlesque is dead.”

I feel as though I can tell you, dear Mr. Bell, that my heart longs for finer things. Mr. Hicks says most of us girls in the ensemble will forever be chorus girls and nothing more until we find a man willing to wed someone of our “dubious reputation.”
