Malcom and I spend the next couple of hours in the backyard. He shows me how to strike upward into someone’s nose, which is sort of terrifying, but it also makes me feel powerful. He shows me a couple of different blocks, and how to evade front and back attacks.

“Now, if someone has you on the ground, there are a couple different ways to get out of it,” he says, kneeling in the grass and motioning me to do the same. “I’ll be the victim, you be the attacker.”

He lies on his back. “Straddle me.”

I pause for a second, my face on fire. He seems perfectly calm, but I’m suddenly nervous. Gingerly, I swing a leg over his abdomen. He directs me to place my hands on his throat and pretend like I’m choking him, then uses his hips to throw me off to the side. I lose my balance and brace myself with both hands in the grass. Then before I can move, he flips me onto my back and leans over me.

I giggle breathlessly. “Okay, I wasn’t expecting that.”

He chuckles. “Sorry. This part you wouldn’t do in real life. You’d get them off you and then run. But I couldn’t help myself.”

Our gazes lock, and I’m suddenly aware that my legs are locked around his hips and he’s positioned between them. The heat between us seems to grow hotter as the moment lingers, and another, strong surge of desire shoots through me.

Before I’m fully aware of what I’m doing, I tug on his shirt, pull him down toward me, and bring my mouth to his.

The first kiss lingers into the second, only this time our lips part for each other and our tongues meet. The warm sunshine, the soft grass, the cool, spring breeze—it all comes together as Malcolm kisses me slowly, deeply, setting every inch of my skin on fire.

His hips slowly push against me, and I feel the long, thick, hard bulge of him right against me where I want him most. Somehow my hands have slipped beneath his shirt to touch his warm, taut skin, and my mind has a singular focus—him.

Suddenly he pulls back, breathing hard, laughing softly. “I forgot you have neighbors.”

“Oh,” I mumble, panting, gazing up at him. “I did too.”

He sits back on his heels, leaning forward on his knuckles, and catches his breath, then gives me a smile that makes my heart race impossibly faster.

“I think that’s all for today,” he says lightly. “How about we go inside?”

Yes, yes, yes.
