Jim began shaking his head and ran his hand through his remaining hair. âLook, I was sort of on the fence of believing in vampires, but Iâm afraid Iâm having a hard time believing in any of this.â
âI think we all are.â Cory walked over next to Marie and grabbed her hand.
âI have no doubt you donât believe me, but what I say is true,â said Baron. âWould it be possible for me to listen to the recording you have from your investigation? After all, thatâs why we were meeting here this morning.â
Marie leaned down and began to unzip her laptop case. âYes, of course, I think it may be helpful. I do have another question. Have you heard about what took place in the Tannersâ barn and the body of a woman they found on Tybee Island?â
âYes, I read the news articles. Iâm not quite sure I believe a vampire killed one of their pigs. They only feed on animals when it is necessary. It would have been because they were in desperate need of feeding.â The general took the headphones that Marie handed to him and began to inspect them. âAs far as the woman found on the beach, that could be more in the lines of vampirism, but the stories of just leaving two puncture wounds in the neck arenât what I have witnessed in the past. The destruction of a vampire feeding is quite hideous. I do hope whoever is around her this evening is careful.â
Isabella asked, âWhy is that?â
âBecause by now sheâll have begun to turn and whoever is in her presence is in danger.â
Cory quickly set his coffee cup down and grabbed his hat. âIâd better get over there.â
Marie grabbed Coryâs arm. âAnd just how do you propose to explain that to anyone? Theyâll think youâre nuts. I certainly donât want you around her if that happens.â
Gale couldn't keep the frustration from showing on her face. âAre you two seriously buying into all of this? â
âI have no choice. As I've said, I need to have facts, but with all that weâve been through together, there has to be some belief in the paranormal. Iâm just going to go back and see if theyâve come up with anything new on the case. They told me to stay in touch. I can check if anything else is going on at the MEâs office.â Cory kissed Marieâs cheek. âI promise to be careful, and I promise to stay in touch with you.â
Marie said, âYouâd better. Weâll do the same on our end.â
The general was fiddling around with the headphones trying to adjust them on his head. âCan you please let me hear the recording?â
Gale snapped one of the ear pads in place startling the general. âYou could be a little more patient.â
Marie glared at Gale. âGale please don't be so rude. Iâm sorry Baron. Just let me plug this in and find the right recording.â
After a few minutes, Baron removed the headphones and rubbed his eyes. âThatâs Carmilla.
