I walk into the kitchen, still a little shaken up. We were almost dead as fuck because of Torque’s crazy bullshit. Then I realize too late that in our haste to leave and get the money off Marty that we left Attila behind to stir up shit as he seems to do so well.

I’m thankful that Razor and Country were here to keep an eye on him, but seeing Julia in the kitchen with Attila doesn’t bode well. He was so blatant in his lack of respect for Eden when he snooped around. I can only imagine what other lengths he will go to. I don’t want to earn Eden another enemy with her already full plate of them, but this guy needs to go. I need to tread carefully.

My sister looks up at me, and I see the pure rage on her face. Attila is still leaning in talking to her, but she’s tracking my every move. I stand there staring back, wondering what he can possibly be saying to her to upset her so much.

“What the fuck is going on?” I ask Razor, who’s deep in a conversation with Tia.

“What do you mean?” he asks, looking up and seeing the state I’m in. “What happened? The run didn’t go well?”

“No, it fucking didn’t. We almost were roadkill after grabbing the money. We need to figure out how Krickitt knew where we would be going.”

“What the fuck?” He asks before I can keep telling him what happened. Julia storms up to me.

“How long have you known?” she asks, stepping toe to toe with me. “Don’t fucking lie to me, brother.” I look past her, over her head at Attila. He just smirks at me, but when Julia looks back, he looks away like he wasn’t just taunting me.

“What are you talking about, Julia?” I frown, running a hand through my beard. I know what she’s talking about, and if I don’t tread carefully, this is going to blow up in my face. I step back a bit, even though she’s a good foot shorter than me.

“You know damn well what I’m talking about. How long have you fucking known?” She’s yelling now. I resist the urge to tell her to calm down. I’ve only made that mistake once in my life, when we were twelve years old, and I won’t make it again. I walked around with a black eye for a week because of it.

“I’ve known for a while,” I admit, looking anywhere but in her face. I don’t have the balls to see the hurt. The hurt of my omission, the pain of our brother’s death.

“So the other day when I was asking you, you knew he was fucking dead!” she screeches. I’m surprised she hasn’t hauled off and smacked me already. At this point, I know it’s what I deserve. I think I’d rather her hit me than keep yelling at me.

“Yeah.” That’s the hardest word to get out. I’ve been lying by omission for a long time.
