'It's logical,' he ponders. 'If a Pokémon could endure the desert's harsh conditions, it's probably still thriving out there.' He rises from his kneeling position.

'Would Rock and Ground types even need water?' It's a casual thought, somewhat superfluous, but he acknowledges that some of them might require water from time to time. Pokémon like Onix, Geodude, or the pure Ground types like Hippopotas might not, but he's not a professor or a scholar. His interests are more pragmatic.

Ethan inhales slowly through his nose, his breathing controlled and practiced. 'Maybe I should reconsider my criteria.' He walks back toward the clearing, taking in the surroundings and savoring the gentle breeze on his face. 'I don't have time to waste in these mountains.'

He returns to their part of the grove, expecting to find Ziggy enjoying her meal, Spinda lost in the ground, or Xatu ready to share more enigmatic wisdom. Instead, he encounters a furious Mankey, raging like a bull stirred by a swarm of bees. It screeches loudly and pays no attention to him as it confronts Ziggy.

"What's happening here?" He doesn't shout, but his tone adopts the no-nonsense, authoritative voice his stepfather once used on him when he was younger. "Do you need something, or are you just here to provoke my partner?"

The Mankey turns towards him, seething with anger. Its furrowed brow showcases the tension, and it forcefully slams both hands on the ground repeatedly. It points at him, its gesture dripping with accusation, and continues pounding the ground like a judge with a gavel.

"You want a battle?" The dramatics come to a halt, and it nods. Ethan sighs, turns to Ziggy, and locks eyes with her. "Well, girl, are you up for it?" She scratches behind her ear with her hind leg before rising to her feet.
