“Okay, wow. That... was disturbing. Was that really the devil?”

“Yup.”

“He looked terrible... and massive.”

“The devil doesn’t fight fair.”

“I can see that. You were flying. You had wings. And you disappeared and reappeared.”

“Sometimes I don’t fight fair, either.”

“Were those hooded things... demons?”

“Yes.”

“And those lighted beings?”

“Angels.”

“And the giant black wolf?”

“A werewolf in his wolf form.”

“Your boyfriend, I presume?”

“Yup. My beautiful hairball.”

“Those lightning bolts I saw?”

“My witchy friend at work.”

“Okay, last but not least... what was that giant, fiery creature with the fire sword?”

“Oh, that’s just my son.”

“Is he always, um, burning?”

“Only when he’s protecting his mama. I suspect he might be an angel in training. And get this, my witch friend thinks he might actually be an archangel in training.”

“I don’t know what to say.”

“I don’t either.”

“I just came here to see if you could help me find out if my wife is cheating on me.”

“I know. And we will. But you asked the right question. A snobby question, mind you.”

“Sorry. It’s just that a home office didn’t make a lot of sense to me, especially with what appeared to be bedrooms down the hallway. But now I get it. There likely isn’t much that worries you. Truth is, clients should be afraid of coming here!”

“Most don’t get the behind the curtain look that you got.”

“Lucky me.”

“Maybe, maybe not.”

“No, I feel lucky. Unless you’re going to eat me or something.”

“I don’t drink blood. But I could deplete you so thoroughly of energy that you slip forever into a coma.”

“Wow, okay. I’m happy you are a good vampire.”

“I’m just me, though it took some work to fight off the dark master within. Like most dark masters, she had a corrupting influence.”

“Should I ask about these dark masters?”

“Probably not, but I will say this... they are the source of much pain.”

“What are they?”

“Dark magicians. So dark they have found a way to defy the cycle of life and death. Hence, immortality.”

“Did you say one such entity is in your son?”

“Yes. His father’s soul.”

“Should I ask?”

“No.”

“Fine. So these dark masters... what’s their story? Maybe you can give me the shortened version?”

“Sure, why not? Let’s see, there are a number of factions of them. The biggest is led by an entity who once possessed me. Her name is Elizabeth.”

“And is she why you were forced to drink blood?”

“Yes.”

“And with her gone, you are now an energy vampire?”

“Yes, very good. Also, with her gone, I can once again practice magic. I’m a budding witch now, but I’m not very good at it. Like, it’s not coming easy to me.”

“I’m sorry to hear that.”

“It is what it is. Trust me, I’m not complaining. I’ve got other gifts.”

“The wings and disappearing thing?”

“And teleporting, and mind reading, and enhanced strength, speed, hearing and sight. Oh, and I occasionally turn into a rather large, blunt-nosed dragon, which is summoned from the fourth dimension.”

“Your life sounds boring. I’m sorry.”

“Okay, that made me laugh. Brownie point for you.”

“Are you going to kill me, now that you’ve told me all this?”

“No.”

“Are you going to make me forget all this?”

“Oh, yeah.
