F RAELYN COULD’VE GOTTEN AWAY WITH NOT TELLING HER AUNT AND SISTER ABOUT THE CASINO, she would have done so, but unfortunately, Leonidas had already told them about it. So, when they brought it up, they begged her to take them there. For most people, when they thought of their family members, they thought of home. They thought of the people who loved and cared about them.

But for Raelyn, that wasn’t the case.

When she thought of her family, she thought of leeches. She thought of blood-sucking leeches that tried to drain her dry of everything she had. That was who her aunt and sister were to her. Raelyn knew that when they learned about the casino, they would try to drain her dry of that too. They couldn’t help themselves because they thought she owed them the world, and Raelyn wondered when she’d ever signed a contract for that.

“Wow, this is bigger than I thought it would be,” Rheagan said as she marveled at the casino.

“And there are so many people here,” Rheagan added as she tried to squeeze her way through the crowd. It was a Tuesday night, but surprisingly, many people came around this time. It was one of the days of the week when they had the most traffic.

“How much did it cost? How were you able to afford it?” Rheagan asked as she looked at her suspiciously. Raelyn didn’t respond because her sister didn’t need to know any of those questions. It didn’t matter anyway.

Her lack of response caused Rheagan to get grumpy.

“You’re always complaining about money, but you have a business like this, and your apartment is huge! It’s a loft on the highest floor! I bet you have a lot of money. You’re just being stingy.”

That was Rheagan’s problem. Rheagan thought she owed her something when, in fact, she didn’t. It didn’t matter how much money she had. She didn’t have to share her wealth with Rheagan. But it seemed that her younger sister almost thought she was her mother. But Raelyn didn’t recall pushing a child out.

“You agree, right?” Rheagan asked, speaking to their aunt. But Mama Pat wasn’t paying any attention to her. Instead, she inspected the casino, turning her nose up at everything she saw.

Raelyn couldn’t help but roll her eyes because what right did Mama Pat have to look at her casino like that? Raelyn already knew that her aunt was acting like this, scrutinizing and criticizing her casino because she was jealous that she had never had a business like this back in New York. Everything Mama Pat attempted to do had failed, and when Raelyn told her she was going to college for business, Mama Pat laughed at her. Who had the last laugh now?

“Rae.”

When someone called her name, Raelyn’s head whipped around to the side to see Nikos walking up to her.

“I’ve been looking for you,” he said, “and I called you.”

Raelyn frowned for a moment until she remembered she had forgotten to call him back after she received a call from him yesterday.
