Cockerill was not alone as the president of Racing Métro, Jacky Lorenzetti said “I’m not paying players who play part time and I do not know if the Argentines will continue to play in France.” [32] Racing Métro nonetheless offered extended contracts to Juan Martín Hernández and Juan Imhoff with both players signing extended multiple-year contracts in 2012. [33] Hernández had signed in April 2012 while one year later Leicester announced the arrival of a new winger for the 2013-2014 season. The club had signed Exeter Chiefs winger Gonzalo Camacho on a two year deal [34] despite him being firmly established as Argentina’s first choice right winger. Joining Camacho in the starting lineup for Argentina in 2012 were both Agulla and Imhoff and of the three all had long term contracts in place with European clubs in 2013.
Agulla’s departure from Leicester saw him move to Bath but the club’s other Puma at the time, Marcos Ayerza, was signed on a new contract in 2012 which would see him remain a Tiger until Rugby World Cup 2015. [35] In all cases the market dictated the needs of the clubs with Bath happy to sign Agulla knowing that he would miss the early season matches and pre-season training. Bath also signed Eusebio Guiñazú who had been Argentina’s starting hooker throughout 2012 and in 2013 the club signed Juan Pablo Orlandi from Racing Métro. [36] Orlandi had been used as a replacement throughout the 2012 and 2013 Rugby Championships but was unable to hold down a starting position for Racing Métro. He started four Top 14 matches and was on the bench for four others in the 2012-2013 Top 14 season. [37]
Orlandi’s move to the Aviva Premiership was a quest to obtain more game time and his lack of regular game time in the Top 14 made him an affordable player for Bath. Similar to Ignacio Mieres moving to Worcester the move saw a player taking a step backwards, in terms of the clubs chances of succeeding, in order to achieve the ultimate goal of enhancing ones opportunity of achieving higher honors. Both Orlandi and Mieres played for Argentina in 2012 but were unable to start in matches when all players were available. Mieres was one of four new Pumas signed by the Worcester Warriors for the 2013-2014 season. The others were hooker Agustín Creevy, second-rower Mariano Galarza and back-rower Leonardo Senatore.
Of the four Creevy is the most noteworthy due to him having been a first choice player at hooker for Montpellier since arriving at the club after Rugby World Cup 2011. His move to the Worcester Warriors saw him giving up the chance of playing in the Heineken Cup and also saw him say goodbye to what had been an all-Argentine front-row for a number of Top 14 and Heineken Cup matches as he had been joined by Argentine props Juan Figallo, Maximilano Bustos and Nahuel Lobo. Together with Australian Paul Warwick, Samoan Jeremy Su’a and Welshmen Jonathan Thomas the three arriving
