“Darling, do you have any idea where Jodi is? I went to her suite and her bed wasn't slept in.” He stopped abruptly as he came upon his sister in the dining room. He had the intention of grabbing some coffee and heading out and hadn't expected to see her.

“What are you doing here?” he asked her abruptly.

“I live here,” she responded, looking at him strangely.

“I thought you were going to some luncheon.”

“On my way there, but Jodi promised that she would go with me. The planning for the barn dance is getting out of hand and I need a fresh outlook.” She poured herself some coffee and turned to him. “Have you seen her or not?”

“Why would I have see her?” His tone was slightly irritated, causing her eyebrows to lift.

“It was just a simple question, darling. What’s with you this morning? Or should I hazard a guess? No doubt you're up in arms about Jodi and the way she's been behaving around you. I don’t see why you don’t give in to what you feel for her. I think you two would make an adorable couple and she'd be good for you.”

“Is that your new hobby?” Ross sloshed hot coffee into the to-go cup, ignoring the delectable smell of the ham and eggs on the sideboard. He couldn't eat anything even if a gun was pointed at his head. His stomach was churning and his thoughts were running through his brain like a sieve. He kept thinking about the naked woman he'd left inside his bedroom and how much he wanted to go back and be with her. He'd run away from her because he'd needed some clarity and a chance to clear his head! “Setting people up with each other?”

“I think I would be very good at it.” She looked at him speculatively. “She's under your skin, I can see that, and I believe that's why you run away each time she comes near. Darling, you need to let go of the past and start living again.”

“Stay out of my affairs,” he told her darkly as he screwed the cover onto the cup and strode out of the room. Rebekah stared after him, a slight frown on her brow. A maid wandered into the room and started to prepare a plate for her but she shook her head. “Theresa, it's okay. I'm leaving in a few minutes.” She glanced at her thin gold wristwatch. “Have you seen Ms. Jodi?”

“I'm right here.”

“There you are! Where have you been? And don’t tell me that you were in your suite because I checked, and your bed wasn't slept in.”

Jodi greeted the maid and declined her offer to prepare a plate for her. She poured herself some coffee and brought it with her to the table where she sat opposite Rebekah. “I slept in your brother’s room,” she said mildly as she sipped her coffee.

Rebekah’s mouth fell open and her eyes went huge as she stared at the composed woman seated to her left.
