What was meant to be a quick chat and a few drinks turned into an entire evening of drinking and chatting shit. Beth had to leave after an hour as it was one of her dormmates birthdays, but she promised to try and get back later. As much as I love Beth, the conversation flows a little easier once she has left. We don’t need to worry about saying too much in front of a non-sup. We all start chatting loudly, Tony sticks some music on, and Carl ends up just bringing over the bottle of bourbon for the guys as well as a jug of gin and tonic for me.

A couple of hours later, the party is in full swing. We are all quite tipsy. Carl has told Tony he can just concentrate on our table; if we don’t need anything, he can sit with us and drink. Tony is more than happy with that, especially as he has been working all day. Richard is out with his family for the evening and will be back around closing, so Carl is keeping busy. I’ve already started dancing to the odd song, as the dance floor has been calling me. Our own little party is in full swing.

“Mikey is going to kill me if you get drunk,” Jon says, pointing at me from across the table. I just laugh and shrug. I know he is probably right, which just makes it even more fun.

“I’ll tell him it’s all my fault. Tony and I can’t get too drunk anyway as we have a full weekend of partying ahead of us. The last thing I need is to be dying from three days’ worth of hangovers when I meet your mum on Monday. She’ll be telling Michael to reject me.” The nervous knot in my stomach tightens at the thought of it. I still can’t believe I agreed to meet his mum already. When I spoke to her on the phone, I was so relaxed, and she sounded so happy, I got caught up in all the excitement. But now I’ve stopped and thought about it; I realise that I’m terrified she’ll hate me. What if I’m not what she expected for her son? What if she thinks he can do better?

“Trust me when I say you have nothing to worry about when it comes to mum. She’s going to love you.” Jon says, winking at me, “Just be yourself, and you two will be inseparable in no time.” Stuart nods in agreement; he’s a little too drunk to put words into sentences right now. I’m just about to respond when I hear someone say my name behind me.

My back instantly straightened at the exact moment Jon and Tony jumped to their feet, quickly followed by Stuart. I turn slowly, coming face to face with Kellan.
