Chapter 23

Robbie

“The door’s unlocked!”

Rogan opened the front door and sauntered into the house. He was here to get me so we could spend the next few days together. I was packing bottles of water and wines into my soft-sided cooler.

“I brought a couple of wines, too,” Rogan commented, eyes sparkling. “Just wait till you see.”

I grinned at him, enjoying his warmth and humor. This is the man I’d be loving tonight. After years of single-minded celibacy, this man is the one I’d be loving first.

After zipping the cooler, I gave it to Rogan to take out to the car, and I grabbed my suitcase. I texted Daria to remind her I’d be with Rogan for the next few days, but it was okay to call in case of an emergency.

Otherwise, I wrote, consider me totally out of pocket!

Daria replied immediately: Have fun! ;-P

Rogan held the door to the Range Rover and helped me in. He’d already placed the cooler and my suitcase into the back.

“Where are we going?”

Rogan smiled at me as he turned out of the driveway.

“Lake Las Vegas.”

“Wow.”

Lake Las Vegas is a master-planned community in southeastern Henderson. It was originally a resort community. Because it turned out to be a magnet for retirees, celebrities, and all manner of monied people, it quickly established itself as a desirable residential area. Many homes, shops, and new schools later, it became a great, if expensive, place to call home.

“I rented a penthouse condo in the North Shore area,” he continued. “It’s large and has more bedrooms than we need. One of Dad’s clients owns it. It’s one of his winter homes, and he was more than happy to let me use it.” He sent a warm smile my way. “I think you’ll love it.”

We rode in companionable silence until he turned onto Lake Las Vegas Drive. It was almost noon when we reached the condo community entrance, where he punched in a code and drove through the open gate. The homes were breathtaking.

“Believe it or not, these are all condos,” Rogan told me. We drove up to what looked like a massive three-story home and parked in one of the three garages. We removed our belongings, and I followed Rogan to the elevator entrance to the garage. He inserted a card into a slot, and the door opened.

The elevator door whispered open into a spacious, beautifully appointed condo with vast expanses of honed travertine flooring. The walls were sand-colored, and the furniture was tastefully conservative, mostly Traditional, in style. What caught my eye was the wall of French doors that displayed beautiful views of Lake Mead through the covered balcony.

The elevator door closed behind us, and Rogan’s deep chuckle brought me back.

“Meet with your approval?”

“Yes,” I whispered. “This is beautiful.”

Did I just see a wash of relief flit over Rogan’s face? I knew that he’d spent some time pulling this together, and I appreciated it. I reached up and gave him a kiss on his bearded cheek.

“Thank you for being so considerate,” I said to him.
