3.4.2 Real World Dataset

We had a total of 347 products with a wide variety of characteristics pertaining to shape (tube shaped, boxes and packets), occlusion (transparent and non-transparent), colour (reflective and non-reflective) and similarity with respect to appearance. Each of the product was placed in front of a black or white background, and the image was captured using a digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera to obtain high quality images of the product. The products were then rotated every 18 degrees, and images were captured. The rotation was facilitated by in-house developed turn table. After gathering all the product images, they were cropped with the help of background subtraction (Fig. 3.3).
