Smiling, I say, âThank you very much. Itâs my secret dream to be on a robotics team!â
He winks and says, âWell, I wish you the best of luck. I hope your plan works.â
âMe too!â I exclaim.
In the classroom, I let my best cousin, Lucy, and my friends peek inside the box.
Lucy squeals, âThat robot is so you! How did you get the glitter to stay on it?â
âEasy,â I explain. âI used spray glue, and it worked perfectly. I canât wait to show everyone what my Glitterbot can do at lunch!â
In class, itâs hard to pay attention. I keep daydreaming about being on a robotics team. Time is inching by. I stare out the window and see a cloud that looks like a robot! In science, we are talking about energy.
I whisper to Lucy, âI want to talk about computer power instead.â
Finally, lunchtime arrives. Ms. Corazon calls our class to line up. I carry my lunch box and my bot box. In the cafeteria, kids are rushing to get in line for food. I glance at the shiny steel lunch counter and see that the line is long today. It snakes along the wall all the way to the door. I pick a table right in the center of the room. I want us to be the center of attention so I can make sure everyone sees my Glitterbot.
Carefully, I remove it from the box and set it on the table. Then, while I nibble on my cheese sandwich, I use my controller to make my robot roll back and forth across the table. When I see a RoboGirl coming, I make Glitterbot spin in the middle of the table. She reminds me of a disco ball with all her silver glitter.
Maggie, the RoboGirl, stops right in the middle of the aisle, and two kids bump into her! Paula, Cara, and Lucy come around the other side and sit down. They are practically hypnotized by my Glitterbot. Now other kids are stopping to watch Glitterbot too!
