Chapter 16

Challenge accepted

Eloise took a deep breath before she opened the door to the office. It was now or never. And she was firmly leaning towards right the fuck now.

It was her second day at the office and her first real day of work. And she wanted to make damn sure that everyone knew just what kind of power she was going to have over this place now that she had arrived.

Damon had shown her around the day before, and she had looped her arm through his and allowed him to lead the way. She knew that men liked to feel vital, as though they were needed, and she was more than happy to allow him to take the lead. Plus, she could play at being the willing, nervous employee.

"I’m just worried I won’t fit in around here," She sighed to him about halfway through their little tour.

"I think you’ll do perfectly here," he reassured her, and she smiled up at him.

"As long as I’ve got you to show me what to do," she agreed.

"And I’m happy to give you all the help you need."

"I thought I was meant to be your assistant, not the other way around," she teased, and she squeezed his arm lightly. He was so strong under the fabric of his expensive blazer. When she had met Axel, he had been something of a mess, but this was a man who had his life totally and utterly together. It was exciting in a way she hadn’t thought it would be.

"I don’t think I need to tell you that you got the job," he remarked as they finished up. "But you did. If you could come in tomorrow..."

"Anything you want," she promised him at once. He still hadn’t mentioned his wife. She wondered if that was a deliberate choice, or if it had just slipped his mind in the time that he had spent with her. Either was just fine by her.

"Anything I want," he echoed after her. "I’ll hold you to that."

"I hope you do," she shot back, and she could practically see the lust beating in his eyes. She knew that she had him right where she wanted him. All she had to do was seal the deal, and she would be able to make a move on his territory…

The next day, her first real day at work, she went out of her way to dress up in a demurely sexy outfit – a blouse with the button undone just a touch further than it actually had to be, a pair of heels that gave a curve to her ass, and a skirt just an inch shorter than was perhaps workplace appropriate. Nothing that she could be called out on individually, but all together, it looked good. She looked good.

She made sure to drop him off a coffee in the morning – one from the place that they had first met, where she had gone in and asked about his order so that she could make a good impression.
