The Governor, Shri Girish Saxena, inaugurated the Internet Access Centre and V-SAT in the Allama lqbal Library, which I established for the first time. In his maiden speech, Shri Saxena expressed that he would have regretted all his life, if he had returned to Delhi after seven years as Chancellor of a university which he had not visited. He was overwhelmed with the activity and progress that was visible everywhere.

Mr. Shafi Uri, Minister for Education, inaugurated the Social Science Block and Mr. Omar Abdullah inaugurated the Girls Hostel. The Finance Minister, Mr. Rather, laid the foundation stone for the proposed mammoth building for Distance Education. Mr. Sagar, Minister for Public works laid the foundation stone for the Research Centre conceived for the study of the sixth century Sufi Saint Alamdar Sheikh ul Alam. This was one of the projects close to my heart. I invited most of these ministers with the hope that they would take more interest in the university and its development. Did that really happen is a big question!
