3. Gradually add more steps. You’ll do this by bouncing around between one and three steps to start with. Decide before you move forward how many steps the dog must go to touch the target for that repetition. When the dog is successful 8 out of 10 times for two sessions in a row, add another step so that you are varying between one and four steps. (Remember that you want many more one and two step touches and fewer three and four step touches). Continue adding steps, until the dog will take between 1 and 30 steps forward in a straight line with only one mark and treat.
