We had come together, and I didn’t think I could ever get enough. He had tried to have us do more than make out during his recovery this last month. He’d been relentless, but I’d been worried of hurting him.

The weight of his body over mine, his thickness still inside and hard, I didn’t think I had ever felt anything more beautiful.

“We’re both alive, Val,” he reminded me.

“Bryan—“ I started to say but stopped when he reached toward the nightstand, grabbed a key, and quickly undid the cuff on my wrist.

Still connected, he kissed my wrist and rolled us gently, never leaving my body, and I wrapped my legs under his body, keeping the connection as I straddled him. “I’m fine,” he grunted, and I looked down at him. The need to get closer surged through me, so I pressed my chest against his.

“You were stabbed,” I pointed out.

“I know.”

“I saw you bleeding—“

“Blondie. I’m okay.” He gently rubbed my wrist. His lips kissed my skin, while his eyes never came off mine. “Put your hand on my chest.”

“I don’t want to hurt you—“

“It hurts not having your touch, baby,” he confessed, his voice full of emotion, and I bit my lip. “You feel my heart?” he asked. I swallowed hard.

His heart thumped away beneath my palm. Steady and strong. My eyes started to water, but I didn’t want to cry, so I simply nodded.

“It’s beating. It’s strong. I’m not going anywhere. Getting my way is great. I think I just proved that.” He winked. “But I miss my back-talking, sass-throwing, sexy goddess,” he tried to lighten the mood.

I leaned down and kissed him, his hand in my hair. I pulled away and hovered over his mouth.

“I guess I should get my way next.” I smiled, rolling my hips and clenching my sex around him. I knew he felt it when his eyes burned back as I showed him what it was like for me to get my way.
