Chapter Seven

Looking in the mirror, I thought, get a grip of yourself, Lilit, you are only young again, or so it would seem.

With an intensity that was worrying, I focused on every detail of my face. Then I pulled up the old picture of me in my youth. My eyes flashed back and forth between the mirror and the old battered photo as I examined the differences.

I actually look better this time around. None of the blemishes I had in my youth. I must know how that man, or whatever he is, did this. The money I could make would be astronomical.

I knew that many of the rich people in the world wanted something that money couldn’t buy. That was being able to turn back the clock as death surely got us all in the end. Now I had access to a fountain of youth in the form of two strangers that had stumbled into my life. Moving back to my wooden carved table, I started making some notes and doing what I did best. That was planning to make money out of an opportunity.

After about half an hour of writing and thinking to try and join the dots, I heard a frantic knock on my heavy office door. Before I could say enter, my head of security popped his head in with a worried look.

“Lilit, that monster is back.”

“Which one,” I asked as even though the giant dragon had been frighting, the man, Chrix, I sensed was significantly more dangerous.

“The black fire-breathing dragon, of course. Also, he is in his human form for now.”

I instructed the usual powerful man, “Let him in. Of course, it is not like your going to be able to stop the creature. Oh, and try to calm everybody down as there is nothing to be afraid of. Break out some of the luxury goods and have a party.”

He nodded as he observed, “Getting blind drunk would be a good idea at the moment.”

He left with that final comment, and I rearranged my hair to show it to its best effect. In a few minutes, the man who was a dragon came into the room as he was guided by a terrified guard. He had a cheeky look on his face as if nothing that was happening was serious.

I thought with a terrifying conclusion, we are all play things to him. Nothing more than insignificant toys as none of us are a serious threat. What would this creature think as something that was to be afraid of?

I had for so long ruled those around me with a mixture of fear and reward. Now I had neither method to control this creature. I will have to tread carefully.

The handsome man said to me in a singsong accent, “Greeting, Lilit.”

Knowing that he didn’t understand my language the last time he was here, I replied, “Greetings?”

With a smile as he sat in front of my table, he introduced himself, “Xaset.”

“What do you want,” I asked slowly.

Pulling out a crumpled one-dollar note from a pocket, he declared, “More money.
