Lornyc examined the rose he’d made from a ribbon and decided he was reasonably satisfied with his handiwork. He checked his notes, tweaked a few details here and there, but in the main he was confident he was well on track for the first task, which only left another four to work on.

Since he wasn’t going to practise the healing challenge beyond a glance through some general medical texts on the topics specific to the task, he could spend more time on the others. He thought he’d narrowed down the building he’d like to recreate for the second task, he would just need space and time to play around with a few ideas.

Lornyc huffed as he pored over the architectural designs of the orb horizon and the orb temple, he could understand why Methian had suggested using the headquarters of the Cerulean Cult, the design was challenging enough and it was a blatant reference to his importance in Iconis, but that was also a reason why he wasn’t sure if it was a good idea. The other front runner was the main building in the Square of the Kelts in Scura, again stating Lornyc’s importance, but he just wasn’t sure if that was the right way to go.

The Atrium, the main civil building in Katraman felt like a better option, because he had always been destined to lead Katraman. He sucked his teeth and wondered about a Beheren building, but he would need to find a way to get a map and floorplans for those, and that would not be a quick job.

Methian looked up from where he was reading notes from a meeting. “That’s not a good noise. What’s wrong?”

“I’m not sure of the building for the second task. I can’t help but think flaunting my connections to Scura and Iconis might be counterproductive, like I’m threatening to do the same with Beher.”

“I suppose it could be construed as you showing off a bit.”

“But not in the right way.” He threw his pen onto the desk and scowled as a cascade of ink blots covered some of his notes.

“What about somewhere neutral? There’s the College’s Senate House, or the Archivist’s building.”

“In general the mage don’t care about College, you only end up there if you haven’t got magic, but the Archivist’s might work, and Prasutagus should be happy to give me the plans so I can see if it is feasible.”

“You should have at least two in mind,” said Methian. “If I were a betting man I’d say Arial will use the courthouse or maybe the library of Beher, they’re both iconic buildings, so you should probably avoid them.”

“I think I should have something from Beher though, but I’m not sure.”

Methian went quiet for a minute, mulling something over. “I don’t suppose the House of Heritine had an actual house… it would be a nice concept if you can pull it off.”

Lornyc searched one of the many piles of paper on his desk. “I did ask Garret to check for that, and I’m sure I saw something in his last lot of notes.
