CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE

Eredal ran up and hugged the male elf, who seemed to have come here with Connie. Levy let them be as he and Connie gave each other a hug.

“I’m glad to see you,” she said.

“You as well,” he replied.

“You’re level 12!” She smiled, though she sounded a little bitter. She was only level 11. They had been level 9 when they’d been separated. “Have you been slaying creatures without pause this whole time?”

“Not exactly.” Levy invited her back into the village where she was provided with a supper. Eredal and the other elf had gone off to sit together on a fallen log as if they wanted some privacy. It didn’t seem as if there was anything romantic between them as they sat with some distance, but if they were only friends then they must’ve known each other a long time, Levy guessed, based on the excitement of their reunion.

Levy told Connie everything that had happened, starting with him killing Drale and then being trapped on the roof with a Seoph.

“I’m sorry your family lost many valuables,” he said.

“They have plenty. They’ll be fine, even if they don’t think so. Tell me what happened when you arrived here.”

He described the events that followed after resurrecting here.

“Can you share the Dirn Stronghold quest?” she asked when he was done.

He nodded and gave it to her.

“This is very exciting. You’re lucky you ended up here, and it sounds like the people of Felswin are lucky as well. But have you had any news from Drale?”

“None, but I’m sure he’s fine wherever he is.”

“Yes, I was actually more worried about you.”

“I think I’m insulted.”

She chuckled.

“So why does the elf who came with you seem so familiar to me?” Levy asked.

“You probably saw him around the first dungeon with all the other trainees. He was grouped with his sister and another elf.”

“Oh, he and Eredal are siblings?”

“Yes.”

Levy glanced over at the two of them again. Gaforo was the name of Eredal’s brother. He looked like a warrior, tall with broad shoulders. He had the same silver hair as his sister, almost identical in fact, even in length. His eyes were dark, though, and there was something about his face that made him look, perhaps, mean? Eredal certainly didn’t give off the same impression.

Levy remembered him better now. He was the warrior of their group who specialized in the elemental magic, something Levy had never heard of before. Levy had tried to speak to them but none understood his question.

“It must’ve been difficult to travel with him,” Levy commented

“He can be a little serious and direct, but it wasn’t too difficult.”

“No, I mean because he can’t speak any common tongue.”

“He can speak common tongue better than Drale.”

“What?” Levy almost shouted.

Connie seemed startled as her eyes widened. “What do you mean, what?” she asked nervously.

“He pretended not to understand me when I met him outside the first dungeon.”

“He probably just didn’t want to talk to you.”

Levy tossed his hand and clicked his tongue. “Now I really am insulted.
