We are going to focus on the less obvious threats to the Radical Centre. These threats are not the big ones you read about in the news such as a trade war, Brexit, Trump’s tax moves or some major series of events that will ambush us. Some of the most insidious threats that should concern us now are hidden in plain sight.

Those who have done very well out of the past generation’s economic and social uplift and now, even though they don’t know it, are setting limits on other people’s opportunities. They are trying to consolidate their position close to the top. They are the 15%. They are not mega-rich like the easy-to-vilify 1%, but they are the I’m Alright Jack tribe who would now like things to stop moving and the status quo to be preserved. Having experienced significant upward social mobility in their careers, they now want to preserve these benefits for themselves and pass them on to their own families.
