THE ELEVATOR CARRYING the two guards and an unconscious Lonesome arrived on the first level of the parking garage with a familiar chorus. But the doors didn’t open.
“What the hell?” said the guard who wore his long hair pulled up in a man-bun. He pressed the button that would manually open the doors but nothing happened.
“Just give in a second,” suggested the entirely bald guard.
The two men waited, Lonesome hanging limply between them. The doors remained closed.
“OKAY, I’VE LOCKED their elevator down,” Leonard said. Hearing his voice in her ear made Crosbi feel like she had a guardian angel. The elevator doors opened and she rushed through them before they were completely open. She sprinted down the hallway towards room 1538. Draped over her arm was the vigilante’s leather trench coat. It was much heavier than she had expected and her forearm was aching from the effort. But her plan didn’t work without it.
“How much time do I have?” Crosbi asked, “However long it takes them to decide to use their thumbprint. I can only override that once,” Leonard said. “I suggest you hurry.”
“I’m here,” she said, once she was standing in front of her door. The hotel was still on lockdown because even though the dangerous intruder was incapacitated, he was still technically inside the building. At least that was going to be their excuse if Murdock ever asked. She heard the familiar click of her door unlocking, followed by Leonard’s voice, telling her it was open. The door slid aside and she rushed in. The lights were motion sensitive and each step she took caused the darkness in her chambers to recede. Crosbi knew the layout of the weapons cache by heart. She didn’t need the light. Swords, knives, nunchucks and other short range weapons decorated the wall to her left. Hanging on the wall to her right was every firearm you could think of from a handgun to a rocket launcher. But what she was wanted was on the far wall. The potions and toxins wall. Standing on the second shelf from the bottom, sixth from the left was the antidote. It was a green liquid in a four inch tall vial. Just as the vigilante had described.
“Crosbi you need to hurry. The guards just tried their thumbprint,” Leonard urged in her ear.
“On my way,” she said, snatching the vial off the shelf.
