Thursday came and went. Cami and I spent most of the day together since I wouldnât see her for the next two weeks. She helped me pack for staying at Braydenâs, which I was thankful for not being a fashionista. Cami warned me that there might be fancy dinner parties and other posh events I didnât even consider. Slowly Cami was adding to my closet, trying to even out the trendy with my sassy saying shirts.
âGirl, what are you wearing tomorrow? This is a big deal, after all, you only get to meet your in-laws for the first time once,â Cami said, hands on her hips, looking over the option we had laid out.
My stomach clenched at her words. For me, it was still hard to wrap my head around the fact Brayden and I were dating, let alone bonded for life. âYou pick, I think Iâm going to throw up.â
Cami just rolled her eyes at me. âIt wouldnât be so bad if you had told me that the only winter coat you had made you look like a damn green Michelin Man.â
âThat jacket will keep you warm in negative degree weather, I'll have you know,â I said, defending myself. âHow was I supposed to know I would need to worry about dinner parties.â
Cami grabbed my hand and dragged me out of my room and down the stairs. We went past the library into the other side of the house that I really didnât go into. Stopping at a door, Cami knocked, and without waiting for an answer, she flung the door open.
âCami, how many times do I have to tell you the purpose of knocking is to let the occupant answer you,â Beth said, looking up from her tablet, seated in an overstuffed wingback armchair.
âLala needs a winter jacket for her trip to Braydenâs. I know you have like fifty of them, and you're closer to her size then I am,â Cami said, marching right into Bethâs closet.
Shaking her head, Beth went back to reading as if this was a normal occurrence.
âIâm sorry, Beth, I kept telling her I have a winter coat, I donât need to borrow another one,â I said, apologetically.
Beth looked up at me with a gentle smile. âItâs quite alright, Cami isnât wrong. The Dolton family is a prominent family, and the chances of you going to a party are high. Brayden is the heir to the Dolton estate and will be expected to be there as well. You being his significant other will attend with him, youâll need the jacket.â
I gulped. âYou make this sound like Iâm dating royalty.â
âIn a way,â Beth said, setting aside her tablet, giving me her full attention. âAll of the boys are from the five most influential families on this side of the world. It is the purpose of the Elementi to be present where demons would most likely attack. We can gain access to almost anywhere with the connection we have from the five boys alone. Add in the network of thousands of other Elementi placed all over the world, we are unstoppable.
