6. Change hostname (optional)

The host name defines the computer name under which the Raspberry Pi can be reached in the network. By default, a fresh Raspbian has the host name "raspberrypi". You might want to change that. For example, if you run several, then you might want to differentiate them by name.

Menu order in German: Settings/Raspberry Pi configuration/System/Hostname/OK

Menu order in English: Preferences/Raspberry Pi Configuration/System/Hostname/OK

The new host name can be entered in the text field with the given name. It is saved with a click on "OK", but only accepted when you restart.

If you want to do it manually:

sudo hostname -b {NEW_NAME}

Then check briefly:

hostname

Note: It is advisable to change the host name using the Raspberry Pi configuration tool.

It is important that if you have changed the hostname, you also have to re-create the SSH keys.
