WHY ORGANIC IS BETTER
Whether you’re buying prepared baby foods or making your own, always use whole, natural, preservative-free, additive-free, organic foods whenever possible. Not only do whole foods contain more vitamins, minerals, fiber, and healthful fats as compared to processed foods, but they also bypass the pesticides, additives, and toxins that impair concentration and increase hyperactivity in some children. Good brands of infant cereals and baby foods include Healthy Times and Earth’s Best certified organic baby foods. There are a number of excellent infant cereals and canned baby foods sold in supermarkets and health food stores, or better yet, you can make your own.
Fresh food is always more nutritious than canned, processed food, and whipping it up is easier than you might think. All you have to do is puree vegetables, fruit, and other healthful foods you eat in a blender, food processor, or coffee grinder (for dry foods). As your child gets older and his culinary repertoire expands, you can offer a greater selection of home-cooked foods. By the time he is 9 to 12 months old, he will be eating a variety of regular table foods, including fish, poultry, beans, meat, and mixed dishes.
