CHAPTER FIVE

– FAITH –

Rayden is pretty relaxed and doing great, even if he fell off the horse the first time he tried to get on. We enjoy the ride until the shop comes in sight. I really hope to find a solution to the weirdness, the darkness, the…magic?

It sure feels and looks like magic, the way the darkness seeped into my veins. The burning was excruciating but the water Rayden pulled me under did lessen it. I’m thankful for his help, even if he doesn’t like his father he does reach out to him for me.

“We’re here,” Rayden says and with it pulls me from my thoughts.

“Great,” I happily chirp.

Rayden guides the horse behind the building where it’s remote and safe for the horse to stand as he ties the reins to a pole after we dismount. We walk around the building and step inside the store. It’s a bit dark and the only light comes from the sun shining through the windows.

“Hello?” I hesitantly ask as we glance around.

Rayden frowns when we don’t get any reply and I also get a weird feeling about it. We walk around but his father doesn’t seem to be in the store, or anyone else for that matter.

“Is anyone here?” Rayden bellows from right beside me.

“I’m going to check the back, stay here,” Rayden says and strolls to a door, leaving me to stand in the dark shop with all the crystals surrounding me.

The store is cold and it makes me shiver. A weird feeling creeps up on me and it’s completely different from the way I felt the first time I was here. I drag my feet toward the cash register. Spots appear in my vision when I glance at the wall behind the cash register.

The spots swirl into shapes, turning into letters written on the wall. I swallow hard and read them as they form sentences.

“Find me and the darkness fades. Hide, and the darkness stays,” is written in big letters in the same color as the shimmering liquid that’s running through my veins.

I shove the sleeves of my hoodie up and pull the zipper down. I now notice the darkness is making its way up into the direction of my chest. Is it going up to the mark? Panic hits me and my mind is running on overtime.

The two crystals that affected me, the liquid crawling inside my veins, the phone call Rayden’s father had earlier today when we were standing right here. They have to be connected to each other. Why didn’t I connect the dots before?

I’m rooted to the floor with my eyes locked on the wall. The liquid of the letters still shimmers with the blue glow, the same way it was in the stone before it hit my palm.

“The place is deserted. I have no clue where my father is. Oh, but I did find a hoodie in the back,” Rayden says as he strolls back into the store. The sound of him zipping up the hoodie draws my attention to him.
