We walked down the now familiar hall and found the same huge bedrooms we'd stayed in before. It almost felt like home.

“Now don't stay up all night worrying about this, Bay,” Wolf said. “We need to be bright eyed and bushy tailed in the morning.”

“Yeah,” I said. “I won't.” I'd nearly plunged off the top of the Graf. I'd stepped all over exploding flashbulbs while catching a bowling ball that would have surely killed us all. Hell, I'd even been sucked through a hurricane in a hot air balloon and stranded on a deserted island. But nothing frightened me more than the idea of crawling back to Jean Harlow and asking her for a favor.

So I stayed up all night, worrying about it. Eight hours passed by in what seemed like about ten minutes.

There was a rapping at my door. I stood up from the chair to see who it was and suddenly, I was in bed and it was dead silent. I must have gone to sleep without realizing it. I must have been dreaming that I was still awake. It's a sad state of affairs when you can't distinguish your dreams from reality. I hoped I would wake up in my tiny apartment in Hoboken, and that this would all be a dream.

But the rapping came back, and this time it was real. I could hear a faint voice on the other side of the door.

“Bay! Are you up?” It was Wolf.

Damn it! I thought, as I opened my eyes and looked around the room.

“I am now!” I replied. “Give me a minute!”

I opened the door and Wolf rushed in.

“They knocked on my door at four o'clock in the morning,” Wolf said. “I guess the colonel was anxious to hear about our change of plans.”

“Son of a bitch!” I said, as I pulled my pants on. “I heard a knock too, but I thought I was dreaming.”

We found Kots in the control room. The two men we'd talked to the night before were still there.

“What is all this about a change in plans?” the colonel asked.

“You know what it is already,” Wolf said. “I am sure your men here briefed you.”

“Absolutely,” Kots answered. “And I have carried out your request.

“We want to enlist the help of someone,” I explained. “Someone in Hollywood.”

“Yes,” the colonel answered. “We are there now.”

“We are where now?” Wolf asked.

“MGM studios,” he replied. “You want to see Jean Harlow. We are ready to send you down now.”
