“Who is Salman Khan?”

- Hong Lee, Silicon Valley entrepreneur

CHAPTER 10

“Whoa, that’s a hot chick next to your seat.” Harry was bursting at the seams.

Shiva smiled. He stretched his arms across his chest and then behind his shoulders. He knew how excited Harry could get. They stood by the restrooms, taking a break from all that sitting in one place on the long plane ride from San Francisco to Mumbai. After days of debate they had accepted Mr. Singh’s offer to set up an India office.

“That’s a Russian chick and she’s got some very cute stories.” Shiva waved to the girl who smiled from her seat and waved back.

“You’re always the lucky one. How come I never have a cute girl beside me? Look at that guy next to me in 54B.”

Shiva looked towards the rear of the plane. That was one scary looking dude.

“You won’t believe it. He had the flight attendant mix him red wine and coke.”

“That’s sacrilege. Did he add cream and sugar too?” Shiva asked.

“Hey, you never know.” Hong joined in the discussion. “Next you’ll hear he’s raking in millions on a product called cocovino. He might do better than our start-up.”

“Crazy,” Harry said. “Reminds me of the incident several years ago when someone told me ‘make me a light peg of beer; add more water.’”

Shiva and Hong laughed.

“So, why is the Russian chick headed to India?” Harry asked. “She wants to act in a Bollywood movie? A dance item number, maybe?”

“She’s not going to Mumbai. She’s changing planes in Frankfurt for Moscow.”

“Darn.”

“But she does know about Bollywood. She’s a big fan. I’m telling you. That’s how India is conquering the world…through these song and dance movies.”

“Bad luck. We could’ve shown her around Mumbai,” whined Harry.

“Yeah right. Even you two haven’t seen Mumbai yet. At least nothing more than the airport, right Harry?” Shiva winked.

“Hey, curiosity is killing the cat in me,” Hong insisted. “What happened when Harry was in Mumbai? You’ve got to let the cat out of the bag.”

“It was nothing exciting,” Harry interrupted with a catty caution.

“Ok, here’s the short version,” said Shiva. “We had planned a grand reunion. Harry came from the U.S., Sally from Australia, and I was in India to check on my Ma.”

“Cool. Sounds fun.”

“Sally arrived earlier and we waited outside the airport. And we kept waiting. Three hours went by. Passengers from all the incoming flights came out and went their merry way, but there was no sign of Harry.”

“Where the heck was he?”

“At last he called. His passport was about to expire and the Indian immigration wouldn’t let him into Mumbai. He had to head back to the U.S. on the next flight.”

“That was a bummer. I was so looking forward to meeting you guys, but the officials wouldn’t listen. This friendly flight attendant, what was her name…Krissie, no…Kriya, yeah, Kriya. She tried to help me but no luck. I was forced to go back.”

“So Shiva, what did Sally and you do?” asked Hong.

“Well, she was in Mumbai for a week, so I showed her around.
