Figure 21: The apparent separateness of the immanent realm arises from the unity of the collective consciousness. Our creativity is nourished by our interconnected roots via quantum consciousness.

Creative Evolution of the Cosmos and Tuning In to the Cosmic Purpose

The archetypal themes of consciousness remain potential until matter with which to manifest them evolves to sufficient complexity, and self-referential life originates. When the human form emerges, biological functions manifest, and are represented as organs at the various chakras. Then one day the meaning-giving mind evolves in the form of the neocortex, and on that day consciousness takes a giant leap—the ability to conceive of itself as separate from the world, to be aware of that distinction.

The details that anthropologists study and codify show that the way our mind processes meaning has evolved dramatically since our primitive days as hunters and gatherers. Back then we were most interested in giving meaning to the physical in order to survive. Then we went through a stage when we gave meaning to our feelings, to the energies of vital movement; we developed a vital mind. This took place during the time humans were developing small-scale agriculture using implements like the hoe. No doubt men and women working together in the fields facilitated the development of the vital mind.

With the development of the plough and large-scale agriculture, and the leisure time it created for the wealthy, we became interested in the meaning of mental processing itself; thus began the age of the rational mind that we are still exploring. It’s becoming clear that in the next stage the mind will give meaning to intuition, leading to an intuitive mind. Outliers among us have been exploring the intuitive mind for millennia, but this ability has not percolated through to society as a whole. When we’re all attuned to processing the meaning of what we intuit, and to living the discovered meaning, then we will bring heaven to this earth. That’s where we are going in our creative evolution.2

We become most creative in our lives when we recognize that the cosmos is trying to act through us, and we become aligned with that cosmic purpose. As novelist Nikos Kazantzakis put it, one has to open up a personal riverbed through which the universe may flow. Is this even possible? Rabindranath Tagore describes an experience as a boy that exemplifies this point:
