You want to repeat the steps of touching the paw, having the dog lift it, and place it in your hand to the point where simply touching the paw and holding it results in a treat and good reinforcement. When this happens, it's time to add the command "Shake!" Show your dog your palm, open face, as if you were reaching out your hand to him.

Command the dog, "Shake!" See if your dog brings his paw up and leaves it in the palm of your hand. If not, gently touch the paw to repeat the steps above, adding "Shake!" when the dog leaves his paw in your hand. Reward the dog with a treat and "Good Dog!" for leaving his paw in your hand at your command to "Shake!".
