14:15–19

Context

Verses 15–18 deal with being careful about how you walk and act, bracketed by a contrast between the simple and the prudent in verses 15 and 18. It is not entirely clear whether verse 19 belongs to what precedes or follows, but it does serve as a fitting conclusion to verses 15–18 by indicating that the way of the good and righteous is to be preferred to that of the evil and wicked. In this sense it unpacks verse 18 and mirrors verse 17. Fox (2009: 580) suggests that it continues the theme of the prestige that accompanies wisdom in verse 18b.
