Chapter 9

“What do you want to do here, baby?”

“I need for him to be gone and not cause a scene in front of Kade,” she whispered to me as she picked up her cell phone. “I’m calling his mother to see what’s going on. He shouldn’t be here. He shouldn’t even know where my house is.”

I turned to see the man watching us, but not seeming bothered by anything that was going on or by the fact that we were basically ignoring him. I pulled my own cell out and let Ghost know that Gillian’s ex happened to be a member of the Hell Hounds since he was wearing their kutte and that he was currently sitting his ass on her porch.

It only took a few minutes for Ghost and Smoke to come riding up alongside Wren. My brothers had not wasted any time in getting here. “What seems to be the problem here?” Ghost asked as he dismounted his bike.

The man on the steps just shrugged his shoulder. “No problem here. Just came to see my boy.”

I laughed at that. “Yeah, for the first time? You just happened to stop by and see him out of the blue today?”

He smirked at me then. “What’s it to you, pretty boy? My family is no concern of yours.”

“It was my understanding you signed your rights away for the family you wanted instead. How’d that work out for ya?”

“You fuckin’ prick!” He yelled before launching off of the porch and down into the yard. He seemed to have forgotten the other three men who were there in the wake of his anger. He quickly realized his mistake as he was hauled by two of them straight back into the shadows at the side of the house.

“Tell your woman to get the boy inside now, that way if he wakes, he won’t have to see any of this,” Ghost ordered and I listened because it was sound advice. Once Gillian had Kade inside I came back around to find the man a little worse for wear.

“I don’t know what fucked up game you’re trying to play, but you will stay the fuck away from Gillian and Kade.”

“You can’t keep me from my son!” He shouted.

“You don’t have a son, asshole. You traded him away for a piece of ass that didn’t even stick around.”

He hung his head then, and I could see the regret clear in the sag in shoulders and the way his entire body seemed to wilt under that stance. “I just wanted to see my boy,” he spoke quietly.

“Now ain’t the time for that. You had a chance to be in his life. You shot that to shit. You made that decision. Now, you don’t get to step foot into his life again. If, when he’s an adult, he wants to find you then maybe you can try to explain why you thought it was better to give him up for some pussy. Right now, he’s just a kid and he’ll never understand.
