How could one person fill me up so much while it felt like I was bursting with goddamn mushy emotions? Already I knew Deacon would make me crave more, and I’d gladly accept them because I’d never been so full before.

“Because you’re already in my grasp.”

He paused. “Sorry?”

I shook my head into his shoulder. “Nothing.”

“Okay,” he whispered and went back to gently rubbing his cheek against me.

This man was an intimidating mountain of a man and yet here he was holding me with such softness that made me feel special.

I was special to him.

And there I was clinging to this mountain of a man. I’d never held onto someone before. Even Mamá didn’t like to be touched or hugged by me.

Deacon Blackwood wanted me.

Groaning, I pressed against my chest, even knowing it wouldn’t stop my fast-beating heart. “Deacon….”

“What?” He reached out and took my hand from my chest, holding it between his larger ones.

“I’ve never been with anyone.”

“Are you worried you won’t like it? Are you worried you’d prefer a woman?”

An abrupt laugh escaped me. “No. Well… no. I don’t know. I worry I won’t be enough. What happens if I like to, ah… Christ, top?”

If I wasn’t hot already, I was burning now at the image conjured.

“Really? It’s that simple? Your animal won’t mind?”

God, was I getting ahead of myself already talking about sex?

Shaking my head, I scratched at my neck. “I can’t believe I’m talking about this with you when we only met today.”

A shiver raked over me when he cupped the side of my neck. “Don’t be embarrassed, Rio. Our connection is growing. Share anything and everything you wish. And if anyone makes you feel awkward, I’ll kill them.”

The last part was said with such ferocity, I believed him.

“You can’t kill everyone who might upset me.”

His gaze darkened. “I can. I will.”

The air in the room tightened.

I swallowed thickly at the realization that Deacon would actually harm anyone who messed with me.
