CHAPTER SEVEN

Micah was relieved to be back in the skinny jeans and sweater he’d been wearing before Joelle had handed that monstrosity of a uniform to him earlier in the evening.

After Tessa had finished thoroughly embarrassing him in front of Damon, Micah had told her what Joelle had revealed. Namely, that their attempted murder case was a nonstarter.

Tessa was understandably pissed, and when Joelle had returned to her office a short time later, she’d accused the woman of wasting their time, deliberately withholding pertinent information, and, overall, just being a “conniving, manipulative bitch”.

She wasn’t wrong.

Regardless, Joelle had just grinned and fluttered her eyelashes like she’d been complimented. Strangely, it seemed like she’d done a 180 on her opinion of Tessa and had decided at some point during the night that she liked her, after all.

Micah couldn’t say Tessa returned her sentiments.

Still, his redheaded friend seemed to calm a bit when Joelle assured her she’d pay both her and Micah double the amount Ginger had given them for their trouble, citing that the entertainment she’d gleaned from the situation was well worth it. (She’d winked at Micah at this point, playfully leering.)

Damon’s mouth had twisted with displeasure, and Micah had flushed.

(As if he’d needed the reminder he was still naked.)

Micah, eager to have more than a blanket blocking the view of his junk and cum-crusted thighs from Joelle and Tessa, had quickly excused himself at that point, keen on getting his clothes back on.

Which led him to where he was now, sitting at the middle vanity of his dressing room, scrubbing fruitlessly at the makeup and glitter Tommy and Fabio had applied to his face earlier in the evening.

He’d found some wipes in one of the vanity drawers, but he had vastly underestimated the power of water-resistant eyeliner. He had no idea how girls put up with this. His face was covered in red splotches from scrubbing so hard, and there was still black smudged beneath his eyes.

He scowled at his reflection, which bared more than a passing resemblance to a disgruntled, half-drowned raccoon.

Micah was disrupted from his musings by the door of the dressing room creaking open behind him. He glanced up, meeting Tommy’s gaze through the mirror.

Tommy stood frozen in the doorway for a moment, and Micah noted offhandedly that he’d changed out of his military gear at some point and was rocking a sailor’s uniform now – and by that, Micah meant there was a sailor’s hat on his head and a tiny swath of navy fabric covering his genitals.

Tommy’s face did this weird thing – his brow furrowing and his lips twisting in a sort of grimace – before he suddenly turned around and slammed the door shut behind him.

Micah couldn’t help but stiffen at the ominous click of a lock sliding into place.

Tommy turned, taking a deep breath in through his nose before marching up to Micah. Micah frowned in confusion when the man kneeled beside him. “Are you okay?” Tommy asked.

Micah blinked. “I’m fine.” He pointed at his face.
