When the targets are too far apart for my eye to acquire them, I move my head. I slightly dismount the gun to make the movement as fast as possible.

This is an advanced technique that requires extreme body feel and awareness to perform consistently. If these haven't been developed to an extremely high degree, this technique won't be consistent, and it would probably be faster for the beginning and intermediate shooter to just pivot until he sees the next target, rather than unlocking any part of his upper body. I included this technique to dispel the notion that your upper body has to remain rigidly locked in position continuously from the time you've indexed on the first target. The goal is to shoot the targets as quickly as possible. If something works for you, and you can do it consistently, use it.
