BANKROLL
This is one part where I agree with everything that has ever been written about Craps. If you want to play Craps in a casino, you must have money. Otherwise, you canât play. It doesnât matter if this money is in the form of cash, a marker, or casino credit. However you slice it, money talks, and in casino Craps you must have it in order to play. âBankroll,â however, is something a little different from just having money. âBankrollâ is the designation that is given to a specified amount of money that you have dedicated to your gambling. More specifically, as it applies to Craps, bankroll is the amount of money that you have strictly dedicated to playing casino Craps.
How much money should be in your dedicated Craps bankroll? Well, that depends. Usually, a good rule to follow is to have a bankroll of no less than a hundred times your minimum expected wager. Therefore, if you intend to play Craps at the $5 table, with minimum bets of $5 per base wager, such as a $5 basic front line, come, or place bet, you should have a minimum Craps playing bankroll of $500. This does not mean you have to buy in for $500 each time at every table. All this means is that you have selected a certain amount that you are willing to risk, namely the $5 per. Therefore, in the process of protecting yourself against the inevitable losing streaks, you have also thereby given yourself an adequate supply of money so that your skills and abilities in the game can yield the profits to which you are entitled.
Being undercapitalized is a prescription for total disaster. If you cannot bring a bankroll of at least a hundred times the minimum bet, then donât play. By playing without an adequate bankroll, you will become scared in situations where you should make certain decisions, such as when to: go for the press or the proposition; or increase your odds to 25x, 50x, or even 100x; or perhaps back off your bets; or maybe take the dark side and lay the odds instead. Scared money flies away quickly. This is a gamblerâs proverbâand it is very true indeed. If you cannot afford a decent bankroll, stay away from the Craps tables until you get the bankroll that you should have. Why a hundred times the minimum bet? Because thatâs the safest gauge by which to ride out the bad streaks and still come out ahead in the end. I would actually prefer to recommend two hundred times the minimum bet, but this might get a little out of line with what most people will bring to the game, or are willing to allocate to a Craps experience.
Whether or not the 100x bankroll will be sufficient for you is also largely dependent on several factors. First, your ability to play Craps well, in accordance with your knowledge of the game and your mastery of whatever strategy you may be using. Second, on your ability to overcome problems and distractions.
