However, the attribution of the recently emerged series to Basohli is incorrect. Though both series are square in overall format, there are stylistic and structural differences between the two, in addition to a chronological gap in production dates. First, although both series use one line of Takri text to identify the particular musical mode illustrated, in the recently disbursed series the Takri identification is placed in the left-hand corner of the upper border (Figure 5.8). In the Basohli c. 1670 series, the text is placed towards the middle of the upper border and a number always accompanies the Takri identification. Of much greater importance, by focusing on the figures themselves we find important clues for attributing the patronage of the recently emerged series not to Basohli, but to another Hill court, that of Nurpur.20
