Chapter Twenty

It appears that my pussy has powers that I never knew existed.

Somewhere along the line, Jesse went from being my hot as fuck Professor to being my hot as fuck boyfriend, who has apparently decided to trade in his soul just to be with me and to be a part of my sinister world.

My parents have always tried to shield me from the dark and shady shit that they have dealt with for years, but sometimes, the shield needs to be broken.

I can’t rely on everyone else to deal with my problems, and I certainly don’t want to put Jesse’s whole fucking life on the line just so he can help me deal with Drake McCoy.

I need to figure this shit out, and quick.

I have no doubt that Jesse wants to move heaven and earth for me, but I am a Valentine and I have the blood of my mother and father running through me. Relying on others isn’t even a fucking option, and I’ll be damned if I am going to put Jesse in harm’s way. Because that is what would happen here. He wouldn’t have the first clue about how my world works. I’ve been born into it, heard the stories, witnessed a couple of stand-offs whilst hiding in the wings, and I know that I can deal with whatever comes my way.

It’s why I decided to train in criminal law.

I wanted to know how it worked on the other side because then I have the power to save the asses of those who go to fucking bat for me and for my family.

I need to have that power so that I can laugh all the way to the fucking court, knowing that I can take down those who decide to target the Valentine empire.

I push the doors of Tulip open and storm my way to Marshall’s office.

You see, he’s the one that I go to when I need a little help handling shit. You always have that one family member that has no cut off point, doesn’t know when to quit, will keep going until there is no other outcome other than death… Marshall is that for me. He’s a crazy motherfucker when he wants to be, and together we will eventually take over and run the family business.

My parents want me to have no part of it, and up until recently, I had no intention of trying to rule the underworld, but shit changes and now I want it all. They have always wanted me away from the danger, away from the assholes that hide in the dark, but I want this life. I want to be respected, feared, loved. My mum and dad have been all three in their lifetime, and so have Marshall’s parents. They’ve all worn the crown, and now it’s our turn. We just have to make sure that we prove ourselves first, and I’m going to start with Drake fucking McCoy.

I kick the door open to Marshall’s office, letting it bang against the wall.
