That night, Displacer came to him as he slept. He felt her enter his tent, and he sat up with eyes wide as her smoke billowed in the tent air and formed into a person. He stood up, letting his blanket fall away and unsheathing his body to her. He stood naked before her with no shame of arousal. She looked at his body, taking in every inch of him until her eyes landed on his member, and she sighed.

“We must find a way to reach the Sanitarium soon. I am eager for your touch,” she said. She let herself gaze upon him, then looked to his eyes. “Get dressed and come with me. It is time to collect your new men, and I think you will need me to go with you in this.”

Rextur pulled pants and a shirt on and called for Gallen. The man stepped in and soon was strapping armor to his body. “Why would I need you to handle the traitor?” Rextur asked.

“For that reason right there. Your opinion will anger him and charge you for attack. He is not a traitor. He is a servant of Drine. He is desperately needed in this time of trouble. His desire for change might just tip the scale in Treason’s war. You must not harden him against your causes.”

Rextur hadn’t thought about Treason’s need for leaders and commanders. He had not considered the great trainer as an ally for his friend in the rebellion. But why wouldn’t he be? Why wouldn’t the greatest trainer and biggest proponent for change in the nation be open to aiding Treason? Rextur looked at her and nodded.

“I will need you for sure,” Rextur said. “This man angers me, and I have many times thought of ending his life and his speeches, but something always stopped me. Maybe this is that thing. Maybe this is the reason Dis’s hand has always protected that coward.”

“Burgeon is not a coward, Rextur. He has seen war’s hardened face and pulled from it. He still serves the crown but in a different way. Keep your mind open to him and hold your tongue in check when you speak to this man. He is valuable and intelligent.”

Rextur nodded to her, then they left the tent to go for his men and the man who trained them.
