What the fuck? What were you fucking thinking?

Jordan slammed into his hotel room, fighting the urge to put a fist through the nearest wall. Clearly there hadn’t been much thought involved when he’d all but mauled Eric in the elevator.

In the fucking elevator. Anyone could have seen you.

And who knows, they might have cameras in there.

Let the wrong person get their hands on that video and everything you’ve worked for, everything you’ve fought to give Mom and the kids is over. You will have thrown it all away for a hot kiss and a grope in a hotel elevator.

“Fuck me,” he muttered, running his hand over his face as he picked up the phone, determined to get some food in his stomach along with the alcohol before he did anything else stupid.

He ordered steak and fries from room service and then helped himself to a bottle of bourbon from the minibar, figuring it was okay to self-medicate as long as food was on the way.

His first mistake had been switching from beer to whiskey. His next mistake had been getting lost in his own head, obsessing over every glance Eric had shot his way. That man had awakened something in him that he hadn’t felt since he’d broken things off with Kyle, something hot and wild but more than physical, making him long for more than a one-night stand. He didn’t want to fuck Eric and walk away. He wanted to fuck him and stay to figure out all the things that drove him crazy, to learn how to make him come harder than anyone else ever had, and to prove to Eric that some things deserved to be taken seriously.

Taken seriously again and again, in every filthy, intense, mind-blowing way imaginable.

Eric made him want to date again, but that wasn’t where he was in his life. He couldn’t even think about having a real relationship. Something like that was doomed from the start.

It had been doomed with Kyle, and it would be ten times worse with Eric.

He took a long pull off his drink, reveling in the burn as it hit the back of his throat and slid down into his belly. Kyle had begged him to open up, to relax, and enjoy being a couple, but Jordan had never been able to forget about the risks. He was too focused on his game, his career, and all the people depending on him to even think about letting go and letting love in.

He had cared about Kyle, a lot, but he valued the game more. He needed the game more because he had responsibilities that he couldn’t walk away from. If he failed his family, there was no one else to step in and take up the slack.

That’s the only reason he had left the University of Florida as a junior and entered the draft. He’d needed the money for his mom’s medical bills—a lot of MS medications weren’t covered by insurance and some of her pills cost as much as a grand a pop—and soon, for his siblings’ college.
