The areas where horses can be massaged.

BASIL

(See Chapter 1 for the properties of basil in herb form.) Basil is a very potent oil, however, and should be used sparingly. If you are making a mix, use just a drop to start with, and work from there. You should apply the mix you have made to the area between the nostrils, behind the ears and the underside of the neck.

NB: Basil should never be given to pregnant mares.

BERGAMOT

Bergamot is fantastic and has a wide range of properties. I would recommend that whatever mix you make, put a little of this in. Bergamot is anti-carcinogenic for starters (it kills free radical cells), but it has other properties as well: it can invigorate, chill out, and is an antiseptic. I have never encountered any contraindications with this oil. If you are mixing, try adding ½ml per 10ml. Try this oil on sarcoids as well; it can be very effective. And if work is getting you down or you are just feeling a bit stressed, put a drop of this with a drop of orange on the inner wrists and rub them together.
