We arrived back into the heart of Savannah at Forsyth Park. Humidity hung in the air like a wet blanket. The night had cooled, but that sticky feeling remained. The fountain had been in this spot for over one-hundred and fifty years. A short time as far as a fairy was concerned, but to humans, it was aged. The truth was it was ordered from a catalog. I’d researched it fully when I arrived in Savannah.

Finley walked slowly around the fountain with his nose in the air and his hands folded behind his back. He wasn’t looking at the fixture, but at everything else around it. He’d glamoured his white hair. Now it was chin length and obsidian. His crystal blue eyes contrasted with the dark tone. No matter what façade he chose, he was a vision. An Otherworld King in the midst of humans.

“I detect no magical presence, but there is residue from a magical signature. Like a beacon,” he informed me. I hadn’t noticed it, which concerned me, but his senses would naturally be stronger than my own. After all, I was just a pixie, even if a rather large one.

“So, someone knows we are here,” I surmised.

He lifted his chin. “I’m counting on it.”

“You enjoy getting into fights, don’t you?”

He pursed his lips. “I suppose I do. You prefer to spy and lurk. This isn’t the time for lurking. Our existence is threatened by the disappearance of the goddess and her knight. Not to mention a meddling god.”

He had a point. I still didn’t want to get into a fight with the lack of confidence in my new magic.

I was about to express my dissatisfaction with fighting in general when a man with a similar build to Finley stepped out of the shadows.

“What brings you here?” he bowed to Finley but kept his eyes up where he could see us.

“Connie, is that any way to greet an old friend?” Finley responded, holding a friendly hand out to the man who wore a hood over his hair, shadowing his face.

“Why are you here, Finnolaugh?” Connie’s hand flexed. His sword must have only been in a pocket dimension. Finley’s was too, but we all knew that Finley would best him. Finley didn’t flinch.

“Looking for you. Your harpy gets restless when her man isn’t home.” Ah again with the harpy. I couldn’t explain my aversion. Especially when I’d hear tales of their stamina in the bedroom.

No sex. Focus.

“Nastia knows where I am and what I am doing. Nice try, Finley.”

Finley cocked his head to the side, and I realized simultaneously as he had. “You know where she is. You’ve hidden her,” I said.

“I have not!” Connie grabbed his side and winced.

“Sucks being a knight and having a code of honor to follow. You can’t lie without repercussions,” Finley taunted, pointing toward the pain in Connie’s side.

“Where is she!?” I demanded. Finley placed his hand on my shoulder to calm me. I shrugged it off, and he chuckled in return.

“He won’t answer that one even if it kills him.
