There’s a huge grin on my face as I scrub my hands down in the big sink at the back of the garage. Thrift Shop by Macklemore is playing over the sound system, and I can hear Ayren singing along as he finishes up his last job for the day. I haven’t been able to actually get a full day of work in alongside my team in fuckin’ ages. Damn, does it feel good.

Mia seems to be enjoying herself. She got along with everyone when I splurged and grabbed lunch for all of us from Jack’s. Thank fuck too, because I really don’t think I can go back to hours in that damn office. This is where I belong. With grease under my nails, the subtle pride of a hard day’s work puffing up my chest. It’s not like I haven’t been working on cars, but it’s different when your day is full of banter and camaraderie. I fucking missed this shit.

I give Ayren a quick wave as I head toward the lobby, eager to check on Mia.

After a quick rap of my knuckles, I push the door to the office open. “Holy. Fucking. Shit!”

Mia pops her head up from the filing cabinet she was digging through. Her lips quirk in a proud smirk. “You like it?”

“I’m still processing.” I chuckle and let my eyes scan over the space. The piles and piles of papers are completely gone. I barely recognize anything. It actually looks like a proper fucking office. All the things left on the desk are organized and line the edge, instead of the haphazard method I had going on. Taking a step into the room, I see that even the filing cabinet it organized. There’s paper in the actual folders and neat handwriting on the little labels. And I swear it smells cleaner in here. “Did you like… mop or some shit?”

“Yeah. And gave everything a good wipe down. No offense, but it was kinda filthy in here,” she says, pulling her hair down from the messy bun and shaking it out.

“You got all of this done in one day?” I’m fucking astonished.

She shrugs her shoulder. “It wasn’t that hard once I figured out how all the paperwork should be filed. Then it was just a matter of putting it where it belonged. Surprisingly, your stacks were kinda organized.”

“I feel like I should be insulted, but I’m too busy being impressed.”

She laughs at that, her head falling back, exposing the column of her neck. I’m closing the distance and reaching out before I can think better about it. When her head tips up, we both realize where my actions were heading. I take a step back and cup the back of my neck. “Uh… great job today, Mia. You’re, um…”

A low whistle sounds behind me, and I turn my head to find Ayren nodding his head, clearly as impressed with Mia as I am. Well, with her work, at least. “Holy shit, boss! Did you know you had a desk under all that crap?” He slaps me on the back, laughing.
