Charlotte spent the first part of the next morning staring at the wall, a dreamy smile on her face.

Parents.

I. Have. Parents.

Not only did she have parents, but she liked them. Bonus. She’d spent at least an hour talking to Shee about solving crimes, suspect interviewing techniques, skip tracing, martial arts, and a dozen other interesting things before they headed for Seamus’. She could have spent another day, but it was a good thing she hadn’t. She would have missed her nurse sighting, and Declan might never have recovered from saving face in front of two-clearly-more experienced drinkers.

She giggled at the memory of pouring Declan into his bed.

Poor guy. His head had to be pounding.

After her coffee, Charlotte hopped online to find more information about her two favorite suspects for the murders at Big Top—Scotty the Skyscraper and Tony the Tiger Tamer. She was halfway through Scotty’s sparse Facebook page when something in one of his photos caught her eye.

A flash of white hair.

She gasped and flipped back to the previous photo.

There she was again.

The nurse.

Why would Baroness’ nurse appear in both Tony and Scotty’s photos? In the post, the nurse looked somewhere to the left, but Scotty had his attention on her.

Charlotte recognized the expression on his face.

Love.

Clearly, she needed to talk to Scotty again. He had to know at least the nurse’s name, and hopefully, where she lived. Maybe the nurse would know what was so special about Baroness’ cat that Tony was clearly obsessed with. Was it rare and valuable? Had it eaten a piece of incriminating evidence? Had it scratched the murderer? She didn’t know if anyone had ever pulled DNA from beneath the nails of a house cat...

Charlotte researched, puttered around the house, and checked in on Declan. He’d survived the evening with only a small headache as proof of his poor choices, but he still remembered nothing about a small white-haired woman in scrubs.

Charlotte checked her watch. At nine, it was still too early to shake Seamus’ memory again, but it was late enough to head for Big Top and look for Scotty.

She knew the general area Scotty’s house should be, assuming he’d been heading home after their talk outside Grim’s, but entering the retirement community, she realized she’d been optimistic to think identifying the clown’s house would be easy. Most of the homes looked alike, and nothing screamed a tall clown lives here. No huge doors. No oversized shoes on a stoop. No lawn flamingos made out of balloons.

She was about to head back home when she spotted her helpful friend Cassie watering plants. She pulled over.

“Hi, Cassie,” she said, getting out of the car.

Cassie spotted her approaching and smiled, putting Charlotte at ease. She’d worried she’d worn out her welcome with the good-natured clown.

“Find your cat-faced clown?” asked Cassie.

“No. I’ve been distracted looking into these murders.”

Cassie turned off the water. “So you really think we have a serial killer?”

“Oh, I don’t know. That reporter might be a little over-confident with that theory.”

“But two people?” Cassie grimaced and shook her head.
