Kyrenia slowly came to. Her eyes were blurry, and she could just barely make out her motherâs features. She could hear a man cursing somewhere through the fog.
As the fog in her head cleared and her eyesight focused more, she sat up with a stunned cry. Her other hand came up to cup her motherâs face.
âMother, howâ¦. What⦠It canât be,â she said, her eyes welling up with tears. She reached down to pinch herself.
She wasnât hallucinating or dreaming. Her mother was standing there, solid and real. She leapt up on the couch and hugged her mother, sobbing wildly.
âI saw you die. How can you be alive?â asked Kyrenia as she finally pulled back, sniffling.
âI am sorry, Kyrenia, my love. I should have told you about your gifts that day,â her mother said, tears slipping down her cheeks. âI am a phoenix as well. Oh, there is so much you donât know. I should have told you.â
Meana sighed as she grabbed two face cloths from Iovinusâs closet and brought them to the two women.
Liliana and Kyrenia accepted the material and used it to blow their noses and dry their tears.
Kyrenia looked up to see the red-haired man, and she looked to her mother.
âWho is he?â she asked her mother.
âHis name is Leon. He is the Fire God of Ebrilyn,â her mother stated, turning her gaze to her husband. âHe is also your real father.â
The burly man nodded slightly. âHello. I finally get to meet my daughter after all this time.â The man stated, âThe last I saw you, you were just a wee thing in the crib.â
Shocked to find out her father was a god, she stared at the massive man. He was a proverbial lumberjack.
âBut I thoughtâ¦â she stuttered, sinking to the couch, too shocked by the information she was getting.
âItâs a long story, child,â stated Leon. âOne we will tell you today. We should have told you the day you turned sixteen, but we felt it was better if you did not know.â
Liliana went to sit beside her daughter, taking her hand in hers. She began the long story of how things had come to be the way they were.
Liliana had been sought after many creatures in her lifetime, one being the Lord of Darkness, Zarick. One day, she was saved from Zarick by Leon, and the two fell in love.
They got married, and then Liliana got pregnant. Fearful that Zarick would find out and do something to the baby, Liliana and Leon decided to send Liliana to Earth to live and have the baby.
She found a human man to marry, and they lived happily, but Liliana was truly devoted to Leon. She could not have another child by a human.
Liliana had Kyrenia in the human realm, hoping that the Lord of Darkness would not find her among so many mortals.
To disguise herself, Liliana aged like her man so that he didnât know she was immortal. She planned to return to Ebrilyn with Kyrenia; however, the day she died, she was snagged by Zarick.
