A trip to the library has him climbing up the steps to the great holder of knowledge. He enters the doors and is met by an enormous hall, with bookshelves lining all four walls. Hundreds of tables fill the room at which people can read. Down the center there’s a station for the librarians to assist anyone in need of finding a tome or two. Strolling up, he finds a sweet-looking redheaded woman with her nose in a book. On the cover of the book, he sees a man and woman embracing as a sun sets on the city backdrop. The title Perfect for Me is emblazoned on the front. Knowing how deep she is into her book, he clears his throat to get her attention.

She looks up and flushes when she sees a handsome man standing over her. “Oh, um, yes, can I help you?”

“There are a few books I had reserved,” he says in a casual tone. “Gold, Romeo, Alpha, Delta, Yankee.”

The librarian looks at him a moment, and then realizes what he’s referring to. As she dips behind the counter, Grady loses sight of her until she pops back up with a briefcase. The petite woman lifts it up over the counter, and Grady takes it. It feels lighter than he thought it would. He thanks her for her help and walks off.

Upstairs, he finds a room used for private readings. Closing the door behind him, he stares at the table, computer, and wooden chair: His workspace for the next couple of hours. It reminds him of his cubicle in Pittsburg. The rest of the room is empty, but large enough for people to bring in other things which the library can provide. Of course, Grady has no need for anything else.

After locking the door to make sure no one will barge in, he takes the briefcase, sets it down on the table, and opens it up. To his dismay, there are not many envelopes containing files linking Dean to any crimes. Still, he takes them out and scatters them on the table. Every police report about the man is before his eyes. That sadly only totals ten cases, but each is as dastardly as the last. Sitting down, he goes over each and every one of them, carefully reading the reports for anything specific. At his side is a notepad and pen, ready to write down any words or phrases that might appear in the reports.

It appears that Dean has much more knowledge of the criminal system than I initially anticipated. To be able to systematically wipe out the competition by providing obvious evidence to convict is brilliant. It really is a shame that he has to be on the side of crime. Whoever Dean is, he would make an excellent criminal psychologist. He knows how criminals work better than the police do. We should be using these case files to help improve our investigative skills. Our way of doing it is stale compared to what he’s capable of.
