Some music my dad’s really into, I never really understood. The moody way the singers moaned and the lyrics coming out about not knowing where you’re going or who you are or what you want. But the more I climb, the more I understand. In the mornings when I daydream, I understand. When I think about my mom. I really understand what it all means – I mean I understand what the whole world means, where I’m going, and who I am, and maybe even a bit of what I want – when I listen to this crazy jazz band that my friend is in, or listen to any crazy instrumental music really, and I put my head down and I dance almost too wildly and the colours of the stage lights blend as I fling my head around and the world becomes blurs of reds and yellows and sometimes blues and for a moment, I think maybe all the band is playing is accidentals, that life is only accidentals, and then I dance harder and sometimes I almost fall down.
