Colonialism was introduced as "the augmentation of development," which philosophically defended oneself credited racial and social prevalence of the Western world over the non-Western world. This idea was embraced by Joseph-Ernest Renan in La Réforme intellectuelle et spirit (1871), whereby imperial stewardship was thought to influence the scholarly and good reconstruction of the hued people groups of the lesser societies of the world. That a supernaturally settled, regular congruity among the human races of the world would be conceivable, on the grounds that everybody has an alloted social character, a social spot, and a monetary part inside an imperial province.
