These findings were incorporated into the existing conditions analysis and compared with the findings from the next phase of work, the needs assessment. Both the existing conditions analysis and the needs assessment then informed the community’s long-range vision and implementation strategy. As a result, recommendations were made to provide more things to do at existing parks; offer discounted, subsidized recreation programs; provide affordable child care at the city’s recreation center; and partner with workforce training agencies to offer job skills programs at city buildings. This is just one example of how a deep dive into demographic data can yield important information regarding community needs, which can then lead to recommendations for improving community resiliency and sustainability through the parks and recreation system.
